Henge Book Review

In the book Henge by Realm Lovejoy, the protagonist Morgan Le Fay is a not so average girl from the U.K whom lives in a world of magical powers which are elemental. Morgan's elemental power is fire and she tries to win the magic contest to be the Maven of her generation. She wants this position so that Prince Arthur will avenge her mother's death as well as change the law so people with magic powers will not get the death penalty for using their magical powers of their own right.

I truly love how everyone was using their magical powers, like When Morgan got mad she could feel the fire in her veins, and when she met the Maven he lit a cigarette with one finger, and that’s just the fire element, there is also water and wind. One of my favorite all time magical powers is when the water powers were used by the boy Merlin. He amazed the crowd in the beginning when he made a ball of water turn in to a bird then into a flock of birds which I thought was really cool because he did it all with his eyes closed and it started out as a small puddle of water. I also like the gray Knights even though they captured the magic users whom didn't have a license to use it, they were a pretty bad ass squad. They were basically the SWAT team for magic users that also worked for the King and Maven. This book really reminds me of the show Avatar The Last Air Bender, except they could control water, earth, fire, and air and some could control all elements.

Realm Lovejoy did a spectacular job on this book it was detailed so well it felt like I was sitting on her shoulders watching and feeling everything, it also reminded me of the Hunger Games with a spin off attitude of spy kids. I really love this spectacular book and I give this book a whopping, flying 5 stars ***** and two thumbs up.

Firebird Vengeance book blitz

I'm excited to present the teaser tour for Firebird Vengeance by Orren Merton. This is the third book in the Sedumem Chronicles, a young adult urban fantasy series. Today we have a teaser for you to give you a taste of the authors style. This is not included in the book, but gives you a taste of it.

BRIEFING GIVEN BY COMMANDER LLAMAR WALTERS, 4TH PRECINCT COMMANDING OFFICER, SOUTHWESTERN DISTRICT, DETROIT, MICHIGAN

Walters: Thank you for assembling on such short notice. I realize how extraordinary it is to be called from your beats, but this is pretty extraordinary. I’d like to start by taking a moment to lower our heads for Officers Herrera and Nguyen, killed in the line of duty.

Officer Julie Conklin: Sir, what are those things?

Walters: If you’ve seen Lady Firebird’s video, you know as much as I do. She’s calling them “Possessed.” That’s important, people—remember, it’s not grandma any more, or your buddy from down the street. I know how much it hurts to think of them as walking lasers in a meat wrapper, but that’s basically what they are at this point.

Officer Frank Lee: Why here? I mean, why Detroit, not that I want them to be blowing up the 7th District or anything.

Walters: We’re not sure. She said something about those things trying to destroy the purest among us. Maybe there’s some really pure nuns or rabbis or imams in our district. I don’t know. But I do know that they’re here, and we have to do what we can to protect our citizens.

Officer Jennifer Maiz: But they can shoot through anything—cars, body armor, buildings, you name it. What are we supposed to do?

Walters: I’m getting to that Maiz. I just got off the phone with Sergeant Hector Godinez in California. He’s the detective who’s got Lady Firebird on speed dial. He says that any minute now, we can expect a couple of her…I dunno what the hell they are. I think he called them “Marzipan”—

Officer John Dunn: I think it’s “Mazzikim,” sir.

Walters: Thanks, Dunn. We’re getting a couple of those in a minute or two. They’re bringing specially treated shields, swords, and bows and arrows they say can protect against the blasts and hurt the possessing spirits inside. I don’t suppose we have any sword and bow experts in our precinct, do we?

Officer Brent Jeffers: I go bow hunting with my cousins up north sometimes, does that count?

Walters: Right now it does, thanks Jeffers. You and any others who have training, you’ll try to take out those Possessed things. The rest of us will try and clear out as many citizens as we can, and if you’ve got a clear shot, go for their eyes—that won’t kill them, but it will keep ‘em from firing at us. Then we can take ‘em out with swords.

Officer Gill Fernandez: How, sir?

Walters: Well, I’m not an expert, but I think we need to stick them with the pointy end.

Fernandez: Yes, sir.

Intercom: Sir…I…we…there’s two large beings at the counter right now. One looks like a gorilla with an alligator head, and the other some kind of bear with a tiger head. They’ve got huge bags over their shoulders, that firebird lady’s symbol on their shirts, and they’re…they’re talking, sir. They’re asking to see you…What do we do?

Walters: Okay officers, we’re up. Everyone grab a shield, and lets get these Possessed. Keep safe, and let’s hope that Lady Firebird knows what she’s talking about.

About the Book:

When eighteen-year old half-demon Alexandra Gold uses her firebird spirit to save the soul of a murdered girl, it brings her to the attention of the most powerful beings in her parallel universe.

At first, she believes this is a blessing. When she discovers that she has been the unwitting pawn of an ancient vengeance that intends to destroy every living human and demon in both universes, she realizes that she's been cursed.

This ancient vengeance has the power to re-animate the dead and use them to murder the living—and for each of the thirty-six most righteous human beings it murders, the more powerful it becomes.

Alex is determined to protect the thirty-six and save both worlds, but she cannot defeat Vengeance alone. All she has is her demon blade, her spirit fire, and her wits—to prevail, she must convince those humans and demons who are terrified and blame her for this catastrophe to help her.

About the Author:
Orren Merton started writing fantasy and science fiction at an embarrassingly young age, mostly for
his own amusement. In high school, he listened to a lot of dark and moody rock, which inspired him to pick up guitar and start playing up and down California in a few bands, culminating in his Industrial rock group Ember After releasing their debut album, Grasping At Straws, and subsequently The Misery EP. During that time, magazines, developers, and corporations began to pay him to write and edit music software related articles, manuals, and books. Since then he has written the urban fantasy novel The Deviant and the science fiction novel Skye Entity before working on his current series of YA novels. He lives in Southern California with his family, pets, collection of sci-fi/fantasy memorabilia, and curiously large stuffed animal collection.

Available from:
As the Dragon’s Breath drew near, the men onboard her threw their grappling hooks. The Georgiana bucked as the Dragon’s Breath secured her to its side.
From his cabin below, Captain Hughes cursed as he watched the pirates stretch a plank between the two ships and a boarding party rush his deck.
Stinky ran up to Boots’ side. “Boots,” he whispered, panting. “Boots . . . ”
What is it ye dolt? Can’t ye see I be busy?” Boots straightened his coat and checked his appearance in the reflection of his saber’s polished blade.
The boy!” Stinky hunched over, resting his hands on his knees. He took two big gulps of air. “I can’t find the boy, the girl, or the pesky old cook.”
What?”

“They be gone, Boots. Port side skiff, too.”

Boots grabbed Stinky by the scruff of his neck. “Speak not another word and say noth’n of this to another soul!” he threatened. “Ain’t nothin’ that old cod and them two worthless brats can do to us anyhow.”
A hawk cry pierced the air. With two giant pulls from its powerful wings, it landed on the massive shoulders of its master.
Good girl,” a menacing deep voice cooed while placing a tiny leather hood over the bird’s powerful head. The rings on the man’s fingers reflected the intensity of the sun’s final moments on the horizon, with the red sky matching the rubies set within three of the seven bands he wore. From the man’s left ear hung a feather matching his hawk’s on a golden hoop. His long, soot-colored beard reached his waist, braided in places with beads made of bone tied to the ends.
The boards creaked as he stepped onto the ramp connecting his ship to the one he just acquired. The men before him cheered and dipped their heads as he passed. A gust of wind caught his blood-splattered, black dress coat, pushing it open. He always wore black. The color calmed him.
The boarding party moved aside as Boots stepped forward. “Cap’n,” he bowed, “the Georgiana.” Boots swept his hand in front of him.
Red Blade’s eyes scanned the ship from beneath his tricon hat.
Men!” he thundered. “Find me the guns!”

The main character of the story was Christopher , and his life was going nowhere after his parents were gone. Message From The Author: Elsa Takaoka

Elsa Takaoka, AuthorOn the first day of National Poetry Month in April of 2014, I set the goal of writing a poem a day. My little girls and I would sit at the kitchen table - my five year-old doodled and my one year-old scribbled while Mommy wrote. As I struggled to find inspiration, I would occasionally glance at my eldest girl, who has been a doodling machine since the age of two and will often draw pictures for hours. Her doodles contained many of her favorite things: twins and mermaids, princesses and pets. But on closer inspection, they also contained stories of brave and bold little girls -girls with real feelings who fought, made-up, cried and got angry. These girls sailed ships, fought beasts and were pirates. These girls were tender and caring, who doodled and read. Her art contained REAL little girls- imaginative, clever and able to do anything they set their minds to. My hope is that I was able to crawl into the mind of a child and bottle up even a bit of the innocent yet powerful confidence of clever little girls everywhere.
